Welcome to Riverside Medical Centre

The surgery is now offering face to face appointments to our patients who prefer to attend the surgery in person.  To prevent the spread of infection anyone with Covid symptoms or who is Covid positive will be offered a telephone appointment initially.  The surgery can now offer face to face, telephone and video consultations to our patients.  Our patients also have access to our online consultation system (see below).

New guidance from NHS England has removed the requirement for all patients to wear a face covering when visiting the Practice.  We will now only ask patients who have respiratory or COVID19 symptoms to wear a face covering.  Clinicians at the Practice will not routinely wear a face covering when seeing patients but will put on a face mask if the patient prefers.  Staff and patients are free to continue wearing masks to limit their individual risk if they wish to.

We have currently suspended our online booking system.  If you require an appointment, please contact the surgery via telephone or by completing our GP online consultation form.   Our reception team will ask the reason for your visit so that you can be booked into the correct clinic with the correct staff member.

We know that our phone lines are busier than normal but our staff are working exceptionally hard in these difficult times, please be patient.

The Riverside Team would like to thank all our patients for their help and support.

️ UKHSA is investigating a small number of cases of monkeypox in England. The risk to the population is low.

This bank holiday weekend, anyone with unusual rashes or lesions on any part of their body should avoid close contact with others and call NHS 111. Your call will be treated sensitively and confidentially

Have your say on access to GP services

As groups of GP practices, we are working together to look at how our services are provided outside of the core practice opening hours of 8am – 6.30pm.

We want to hear from our patients on what is important and what matters to you when you need one of our services. We are doing this to better understand the views and needs of our patients. Please help us by completing

Riverside Medical Centre is currently working with a number of local surgeries to provide Covid-19 Vaccinations to our patients through local vaccination sites.  Patients can also access covid vaccines through the National Booking Service or by ringing 119.

The Government has set up a number of large vaccination sites throughout the country and are sending invites out via letter for patients to arrange their appointments at these sites.  You can also arrange your appointment online using the NHS Covid Vaccine Portal.

If you cannot use the online portal, you can arrange your vaccinations by ringing 119.

COVID-19 vaccinations for 5-11s

The NHS is now offering COVID-19 vaccinations to all children aged 5-11, in line with the latest advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). As well as protecting children against serious COVID infection and Long COVID, this will reduce the risk of children passing on the infection to others.

The practice is currently not offering vaccinations for this age group, unless they are within one of the at-risk groups who will be invited, but you can book an appointment at a convenient community or pharmacy vaccination centre. Please book online at or by calling 119, free of charge.

For further information on COVID-19 vaccinations for 5-11s please visit the NHS Wakefield Clinical Commissioning Group website.

Covid Booster

All patients over the age of 18 and those who are high risk are being offered a Covid Booster 3 months after their 2nd vaccine.  You can arrange your booster by ringing 119 or using the online NHS National Booking Service.  The surgery will be contacting patients to book their boosters appointments at our local Vaccine Centre located at Castleford Civic Centre.  The Civic Centre is a small local vaccine site manned by the local surgeries and is supporting the large vaccine clinics implementing the roll out.

Spring Boosters

A 2nd booster is available for all patients aged over 75 and those over 12 who are severely immune suppressed and should be administered 6 months after the last booster. You can arrange your vaccination by contacting the surgery or calling 119.

Our GP online service allows patients to consult with a GP online by completing a quick form.  This completed consultation form is reviewed by our GP's and you will be contacted by the Practice with the GP's response.

Benefits of using the system include:

  • 24/7 access through any device
  • Reduces the telephone queue
  • Request sicknotes or test results with ease
  • access to NHS content and self management advice
